Finding peace

in a restless region

Change of plans

Central america

We have traveled to Nicaragua twice in small delegations with the purpose of conducting interviews and telling the stories of regular folks. This year would’ve been our third visit, but events in Nicaragua, beginning in April 2018, forced us to redirect our attention to a different Central American country: Costa Rica.

However, we did not leave Nicaragua behind. Traveling with us were seven Nicaraguans, friends and colleagues with whom we had collaborated in the past. With them, we set out to learn about their stories and to understand the role Costa Rica has played in supporting exiles and refugees. And we learned a lot about the creative ways Costa Ricans are tackling issues such as sustainability, immigration and women’s issues.
